HELLO, MY NAME IS

Shahmeer Hashmi

Aspiring Medical Professional

I am an enthusiastic and hard-working student attending the University of Toronto Mississauga. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology for Health Sciences, along with a double minor in Chemistry and Business.

My Involvement in Campus Life

Currently, I am an events coordinator for the UTM Pre-Medical Club. Here, we aim to provide information, resources, and guidance to students interested in pursuing a career in Medicine. I, along with my fellow event coordinators, will help put together and host various events throughout the year to achieve the before mentioned goal of the club.

Additionally, I am also an observer for ECSpeRT (Erindale College Special Response Team). ECSpeRT is responsible for providing emergency medical response at UTM. As the campus first responders, members are trained in advanced First Aid, through St. John’s Ambulance (SJA) and volunteer to ensure the correct and timely treatment of anyone in need. I completed my Standard First Aid + CPR Level C training through SJA this past year.

Personal Highlights

Valedictorian

I am incredibly fortunate to have been voted for the honorable position of valedictorian not just once, but twice, by both my amazing classmates and dedicated teachers!

AP Scholar Award

Taking part in the AP program throughout high school, upon graduating I received the AP Scholar Award – recognizing exemplary achievement on three or more AP exams.

Fraser UNICEF

I am proud to have co-founded and been the President of the UNICEF chapter at my high school. As a club, we raised money and awareness for UNICEF’s water fund.

Youth for Yemen

My group and I fundraised for the children in Yemen for our MIST 2022 campaign. We fundraised for those who unfortunately don’t have access to food, or water, and are living in very poor conditions. In just under 2 weeks, we were able to raise over $2000.

Black Belt

Since I was in elementary school, I have always taken part in multiple extra-curricular activities whether that be swimming, tae kwon do, skating, or sports. After starting tae kwon do at the age of 8, I was able to attain my black belt in the combat sport a few years ago!

My Past Experience

Fraser UNICEF
President

As a co-founder and president of the UNICEF chapter at my high school, I was lucky enough to lead a team of like-minded individuals for two years. Here I led meetings and organized events to raise money and awareness for UNICEF’s water fund. This fund provided children with clean drinking water in underprivileged countries.

John Fraser Business Society
President

As the President of JFBS, I led meetings and a team of executives who were driven to provide the general school population with business-related lessons. We as a club, strived to teach the school about basic business concepts and personal finance topics which they would not have otherwise learned in school. Some lessons taught included the basics of credit cards, TFSAs and RRSPs, and taxes.

Fraser Athletic Council
Intramurals Executive

As an executive for the Athletic Council, I was lucky enough to help organize fun and engaging events including Friday Night Lights, Spirit Rallies, March Mania and so many more! My role as Intramurals Executive primarily meant that I was in charge of organizing intramural sports, multiple times a week for the duration of the year! I am proud to say, that the first year back after the pandemic was a huge success, with over 400 participants competing on a weekly basis which was the highest in school history.

Volunteering

Mississauga Steelheads

As a member of the game day staff for the Mississauga Steelheads, I got to be part of the super exciting world of sports entertainment. From helping out with all the game day tasks to making sure fans had a blast with promotions and giveaways, I played a key role in making sure everyone had a great time. Working closely with the rest of the crew and managers, I learned how to work as a team, communicate well, and give top-notch customer service. It was such a rewarding and enjoyable experience, and I’m pumped to use these skills in whatever comes next!

Volunteer Notetaker at UTM

As a volunteer notetaker at UTM, I had the rewarding opportunity to support students who couldn’t attend lectures or had difficulty accessing lecture notes. By providing comprehensive and organized notes, I played a vital role in ensuring that all students had equal access to educational resources and the opportunity to excel in their studies. It has been truly fulfilling and it has further allowed me to improve my notetaking skills to better my education along with others.

ECSpeRT

As previously mentioned, I am now a part of ECSpeRT, a team dedicated to ensuring safety and prompt medical treatment for everyone on the UTM campus. Being a new member of the team, I am excited to help out and assist with first aid throughout the campus. This will be an amazing opportunity for me to help make a positive impact on the school community while simultaneously betting myself as a person and improving my first aid skills!
